He was born on May 16, 1865, in Alsóhangony and died on November 2, 1917, in Budapest, at the age of only 52. He studied art at the Budapest School of Applied Arts and was a student of Alajos Strobl. It is considered a prominent representative of the historical sculpture of the period around the millennium. Primarily his realistic style reliefs are significant. His name was made nationally known by his relief depicting the founding of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, which was placed on the outer wall of the academy’s headquarters in 1893. His other famous work is the relief of Miklós Wesselényi, The Floodman, which won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair. In the first decade of the 20th century, several rural memorials were commissioned.
