Kaisu Koivisto: Crystal

(2015, Handshake Europe Sculpture Park)

Animals are a reocurring theme in Kaisu Koivisto’s works. The relationship between human beings and nature in all its forms, above all cultivated and restrained nature we encounter in cities, is often a starting point for her. Koivisto is interested in how animals are depicted: as pets, domestic animals, and as symbolical creatures.

Crystal (Zinc plated steel, glass; 2015) resembles a drawing – a three-dimensional drawing made of thin metal rods. The weblike structure gives it a light and fragile appearance. It is not a solid monument, but rather an image of a transient, spiritual being.
