Grzegorz Drozd, Alicja Łukasiak: Cooperation

ino longer exists

(2017, Handshake Europe Sculpture Park)

This conceptual work raises a fundamental existential-metaphysical question, or rather a line of questions. These questions can be arranged into three symbolic hubs.

First symbol: The seesaw (teeter-totter) is the instrument of the physical-spiritual shift, elevation and sinking, that is the instrument of creating equilibrium. A game of life. The beauty of movement. The joy and excitement of spatial experience of the existence both high and low.

Second symbol: It is the duality in itself, a bilateral elevator. If two beings of the same weight are placed at equal distance from the axis, then a game of life of balanced rhythm is about to start. The joy of jump and staying above prevails equally.

The content structure of statuary art can be captured in the third symbol. The bascule lever turns into a single arm lift here. One of the end points has been concreted and a mirror was placed at right angle in the level of the axis with the fixed diagonal arm. My game of life partner is my own mirror image. I have to face myself. Moreover, I am above in the upper space path. I must b self-weighted with myself. And it is not that easy task at all.

Alicja Łukasiak

Alicja Łukasiak (born 1975) – artist, born in Radom, Poland. A graduate of the Faculty of Arts at the MCSU in Lublin. She is interested in nature, in which she analyses man as a dominant species. On the one hand, she portrays man’s destructive impact on the environment, on the other hand she tries to show the beauty and diversity of life, which is a mysterious phenomenon for her, and the artistic creation is a form of emotional story. In her works, fauna and flora are personified, thanks to which insects and plants are subject to laws imposed by the superior form of existence – man. She works using clay or water paints, experiments with traditional techniques. She pays attention to the strength of colour and its meaning. Art is for her an ethical act, in which it is art that plays the main role, not the society.
