Karol Szostak was born in 1963 in Gdansk, Poland. Son of sculptor Michał Gąsienica Szostak (1936) from Zakopane. He graduated from the State Vocational High School of Fine Arts and then graduated from the Faculty of Sculpture in 1988 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. From 1988 to 1989, he worked as a teaching assistant at that university. He has lived in Zakopane since 1990. In 2008, he received his doctorate from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. Since 2009 he has been a lecturer at the Nowy Sącz State Higher Vocational School. In 2014 he obtained a postdoctoral degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, and from 2014 he was an associate professor at PWSZ. Three-time scholarship holder from the Ministry of Cultural and National Heritage. He has presented works in more than 40 solo exhibitions in Poland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Finland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the United States, and has participated in more than 40 group exhibitions.
