The artist

Gábor Mihály

He was born in Székelyhíd in 1942. He graduated from the Hungarian College of Fine Arts in 1974, where his masters were Sándor Mikus and József Somogyi. He is the holder of several awards and recognitions, including the Kossuth Prize (2019) and the Mihály Munácsy Prize (1979).

His public and mural works serve to introduce Hungarian history and the Olympic idea. In the sculptures of sports objects, strength and dynamics are expressed. In his reliefs he is excited by the alternating rhythm of planes and large, positive forms. He works with stone, iron and bronze, he processes the copper plate himself. He organizes contemporary exhibitions and holds symposia with his colleagues for foreign and domestic interested parties and students.
