István Fáskerti, Zsófia Fáskerti: Dr. Ferenc Óvári

One of the artworks of the Almádi Pantheon was inaugurated March 15, 2018. The white limestone portrait of Ferenc Óváry was created by István Fáskerti, the most widely known Hungarian stone sculptor and his daughter Zsófia. Visitors of the Pantheon in the park next to the local Medical Centre can get acquainted with the biography of the historical figures of Almádi on neat information boards.
Dr. Ferenc Óváry was born in Veszprém on May 3, 1858. He was lawyer, MP, founder of the Balaton Association and the Almádi Circle, generous patron of Balatonalmádi, creator of the spa resort.
Building two railway lines, establishment of the Zsófia childrens’ rest home, recultivation of the Balaton highlands vineyards, construction of the Almádi St. Imre Church were all the results of his rewarding activity. The “Óvári Lookout” and the 5000 denomination of the Balaton Crown (Korona) all preserve his memories, he was the first awarded with honorary citizenship of Almádi.
He died in his hometown at the age of 79, on March 11, 1938.
